Bagan (formerly known as Pagan) is an ancient city situated in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar (Burma). The monuments (pagodas and temples) in Bagan seem to overwhelm the landscape. There are more than 2,000 monuments in Bagan which covering an area of 16 square miles and located on the eastern bank of the Irrawaddy in central Myanmar. All the monuments here are in different sizes and shapes. They are also in different stages of preservation.
This place is also one of the best archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. Bagan could be accessible by all means of transport. Located on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwady, Bagan’s archaeological site covers only 42 square kilometers. There is incredible number of temples, pagodas and shrines from the 11th to the 13th century could be seen here. The most remarkable monuments here are: Shwezigon Paya, Ananda, Gubyaukkyi Dhammayangyi….
