Being one of the poorest Asian members in the past, Myanmar is now opening up to the world. The country popularity is approximately 54 million with 135 ethnic groups. Therefore, the tribes make up about 32% of popularity, which is considered to be rather high compared to several surrounding areas.
Previously, Myanmar was an unintegrated community. Take the disaster in May 2008 as an obvious example. There used to have a cyclone that killed over 100000 and later an epidemic storm leading to the death of over a million people. However, the government kept ejecting the aid from international agencies while the people starved and were seriously ill. However, with the attempt of President Thein Sein and Aung San Suu Kyi – the leader of the National League for Democracy, Myanmar is getting integrated with other countries over the world.
Like a trip going by car from Yangon to Mandalay, the reforming progress of Myanmar is really rough and challenging. 5 years ago, Myanmar led a miserable life without having freedom of speech. Everything was decided by the junta. Thousands of political prisoners were in jail. However, with the reforming policies of Thein Sein president, Myanmar is now making great progress. The devolution to Aung San Suu Kyi and her party is seen as a remarkable point in the state. In March 2011, the censorship was lifted, the private journalism was opened, and political prisoners were released… Suu Kyi also allows the refugees – who went to Western countries and lost their identities to be back home because this can provide a large number of professionals and labors in different aspects.
According to some surveys, Myanmar is now one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. This can be seen from many crowded streets, construction sites or five stars hotels in Yangon – the economical center. Recently, Myanmar tourism industry has been evolving with numerous churches or entertainment centers being built. Moreover, the number of foreign visitors is the highest ever.
In general, the change in the political system in the last 5 years has resulted in national growth. The whole world is now waiting for other significant shifts of this Asian land.
