Panpoot – Art of Turning Designs on the Lathe

Panpoot is crafting wooden utensils, turning on the lathe turner. This work of wood crafting can be traced back to the Bagan period in the 8th century. By using this craft, people could make a number of diversified common items including food containers, boxes, bowls, tables, chairs, etc, which are all lively and attractive. This traditional fine art of Myanmar has been greatly influenced by Mon people, the people of Suvanna Bhumi artists and artisans in the early Bagan period.
Due to the art of turning designs on the lathe, items are created with intricate and interesting shapes, which are well favored by people all over the world.
