Replica of one built in early 11th century Original attributed to the Pyu community
The original spire was the earliest symbol of Buddhism in Bagan, believed built by the Pyu community that settled here when they escaped from the vanquished kingdom of Sri Khittera in the 9th century The original collapsed into the Ayeyarwaddy River during the earthquake of 1975 and this is a replacement.
